What happens to items that do not get listed for resale?

Updated yesterday

Once we process and list your Thrift+ Bag, we aim to give your clothes, shoes and accessories the best chance of finding a new home.

Those items that do not pass our quality checks for resale will be recirculated.

Due to the volume of clothes we process, we are not able to provide feedback on why individual items did not pass quality checks and are not able to return items. This information is something we hope to be able to offer in the near future.

What do we mean by recirculated?

Items chosen for resale are those that are likely to sell well online, based on their usual selling price and how quickly they tend to sell.

Anything that does not pass our quality checks and isn’t suitable for resale is set aside to be recirculated. These items are sorted again by our team into categories - by season, gender, category, condition - to work out where they’ll be most useful next.

The items are then directed to textile sorters and wholesalers as there is significant international demand for high quality, sorted and graded, second-hand clothes from the UK.

We only work with partners who meet our standards. This part of our process is managed by CTR Group; an established circular economy company that partners with some of the largest charities, brands, retailers and supermarkets in the UK.

We believe this approach is the most effective way to maximise the life of each garment. This doesn’t make a profit for us, but allows us to continue finding clothes a new life.
